Use this article when the app cannot find, read, create, or change a local file, or when the folder option is missing.

Mac

1

Open Settings → Permissions and confirm that local file access is enabled.

2

Confirm that the required folder has been added.

3

Review Full Disk Access, the broadest macOS permission for this, if the app still cannot access the folder.

Windows

1

Confirm that the app is on its current update. Versions 26.8.1 and newer manage local file access in Settings → Permissions; older versions use the removed Settings → Sandbox and Settings → Devices pages, so update first.

2

Open Settings → Permissions and check the Local file system access row. It should show Enabled. If it shows Enable, select it and confirm the Windows permission; if it shows Update or Repair, select that.

3

Confirm that Desktop tools, the switch below the Local file system access row, is turned on.

4

Confirm that the required folder has been added with Choose folder in Computer mode.

5

Review the relevant Windows permission if the app still cannot access the folder.

If access worked before

  • Confirm that the file or folder has not been moved or renamed.

  • Remove and add the folder again.

  • Check whether the request needs a file outside the selected folder.

  • Restart the app.
