The app brings Perplexity to Windows and Mac. In addition to the functionality available on the web, it can work with files and folders on your computer, use supported desktop apps and browsers, and make that device available for Remote Access.

What can the app do?

  • Find and organize local files. Ask Perplexity to find, sort, move, rename, group, or clean up files within the locations you make available.

  • Read, create, and edit files. Work with documents, spreadsheets, code, reports, and other supported files, then save the result to your computer.

  • Use a folder for related work. Choose the folder containing the files you want Perplexity to use. Within that folder, Perplexity can use files without requesting access every time. Sensitive actions may still require approval.

  • Open Perplexity from anywhere on your desktop. Use the floating task bar without leaving the app you are currently using.

  • Work with browsers and apps. Use Comet and supported installed apps on Mac. Installed-app control is not yet available on Windows.

  • Run tasks on your own hardware. On a supported NVIDIA device, Portable Computer runs the model and agent locally instead of in the cloud. See What is Portable Computer?

  • Access desktop work from another device. Remote Access lets you start, continue, or monitor work on your desktop from another desktop, mobile, or the web.

How is it different from the web experience?

The web experience works with information you upload or connect. The app can also work with local resources on your computer.

You decide which folders Perplexity can use and which desktop capabilities to enable. A folder on your computer is separate from a Perplexity Project: the folder provides local files, while a Project organizes work inside Perplexity. On supported NVIDIA hardware, the app can also run the model and agent itself on the device rather than in the cloud.
